2014: The Beginning#
The journey of Schwager Bräu began in 2014, when a home-brewing hobby kit arrived as a gift. It made simple brewing at home possible and laid the foundation for a passionate pastime.
2015 - 2019: Experimental Phase#
In the following years, various beers were brewed to learn the craft and improve our skills:
- Pale ales
- Wheat beers
- Cherry beer
- Chilli beer
- Chestnut beer
These years were marked by a love of experimentation and the development of a deeper understanding of the art of brewing.
2020: Professionalisation#
The year 2020 marked an important turning point in the history of Schwager Bräu. A brewing course deepened our knowledge and professionalised the craft.
Sourcing Materials and Equipment#
To take the next step, 2020 also saw investment in higher-quality equipment:
- Sourcing ingredients for brewing without a kit
- Beer kegs for more efficient bottling and drinking
- Purchase of a tap to enjoy the beer, too
Expanding the Range#
With the improved equipment, new beer styles were tried and brewed successfully:
- India Pale Ale (IPA): We brewed our first IPA; we had already received the recipe together with the ingredients
- First amber: A recipe from the internet, to which we gave our own twist
- Various pale ales: The new equipment made it possible to brew entirely new pale ales
2021: New Horizons#
The year 2021 brought further innovations and an expansion of the beer range:
- Sour ale: A refreshing beer made with mango and hibiscus flowers with a pleasant acidity, perfect for summer days.
- More IPAs: With new hop varieties and brewing techniques, the IPA range was expanded.
- Wheat beer: A classic German beer with a hint of banana and clove.
- Tripel: A strong Belgian beer with complex aromas and high alcohol content.
This variety reflected the continuous growth and increasing expertise of Schwager Bräu.
2022: Variety and Specialities#
In 2022 the range was diversified further by introducing new and special beer styles:
- Non-alcoholic beer: Enjoyment without the alcohol, but with full flavour.
- Imperial stout: A dark, strong beer with an intense nutty aroma.
- Rice beer: A light, refreshing beer brewed with rice and with a fine, light texture.
With these creations, Schwager Bräu proved early on its innovative spirit and its ability to master a wide variety of beer styles.
2023 – 2025: The Era of Flavour Research#
In the following years, the brewery turned into a veritable laboratory for the senses. Between 2023 and 2025, new recipes were researched intensively to explore the limits of what can be brewed. This produced characterful creations that combined tradition and a love of experimentation:
- Botanical innovation: A distinctive CBD hemp beer as well as various IPAs and pale ales broadened the hop spectrum.
- Seasonal highlights: The first own XMAS beer with festive, Christmassy notes became the new fixture of the winter.
- Sour power and fruit: With a plum variant and two different raspberry sour ales, we successfully ventured into the territory of controlled acidity.
- Belgian influences: A classic witbier rounded off the phase of intensive recipe research.
2025: A New Chapter – Founding the Club#
What began as passionate craft found an official framework on 20 September 2025: the founding of the brewing club. This step marks the transformation from a pure home brewery into an organised community of beer enthusiasts.
Under the roof of the new club, two special brews were realised shortly after its founding: the exotic, floral Jasmine IPA and a new batch of the popular XMAS beer.
2026: Quince Freshness and Looking Ahead#
The year 2026 started with another innovation: the quince witbier, which combines the fruity tartness of quince with the lightness of a wheat beer.
Today, Schwager Bräu stands not just for individual brews, but for a living brewing culture. The journey is far from over, though. With the brewing club behind us and a head full of new ideas, the pipeline for future experiments remains full. Whether new hop varieties, forgotten grains or unconventional fruits – the search for the next perfect sip continues tirelessly. It will be exciting to see which creations flow from the kettles of Schwager Bräu next.
